RCPC Letter to Mayor & Council District of Sechelt – Cut Block EW002 should not be logged

the only wise and informed option for us is to insist the District of Sechelt immediately halt planned logging activities in Block EW002 and any other remaining intact forest in the Wilson Creek Watershed

Mayor of the District of Sechelt-MD -April 4, 2011

Summary:

In a April 4, 2011 letter to District of Sechelt; Mayor Inkster and Councillors from the Roberts Creek Community Association regarding the 27 hectare Block EW002 (the Wilson Creek Forest) and any other remaining intact forest in the Wilson Creek Watershed.

The Sunshine Coast Community Forest’s Mission Statement is to profitably manage the Sunshine Coast Community Forest in a sustainable, effective and environmentally sensitive manner with broad community participation and support.

Further to the above points, we question how the logging of the last remaining remnants of old growth and older intact forests in any way relates to a ‘sustainable, effective and environmentally sensitive’ approach to managing our Community Forest.

As such, the only wise and informed option for us is to insist the District of Sechelt immediately halt planned logging activities in Block EW002 and any other remaining intact forest in the Wilson Creek Watershed.

Note: District of Sechelt is the 100% owner of the logging company SCPI, Inc. (Sunshine Community Projects Inc.) dba (doing business as) Sunshine Coast Community Forest – the logging company set to log the Wilson Creek Forest – Block EW002.

Help Protect the Last of the Old Growth and Natural Mt. Elphinstone Forests!
